👤 Personal Information
- Government-issued photo ID (driver's license or passport)
- Social Security cards for you, your spouse, and all dependents
- Date of birth for all individuals on the return
- Bank account and routing number For direct deposit of your refund
- Prior year tax return Helpful but not required for new clients
💼 Income Documents
- W-2 forms from all employers
- 1099 forms Freelance, contract, interest, dividends, retirement, Social Security
- Unemployment compensation statements (1099-G)
- Rental income records
- Alimony received (divorce agreements dated before 2019)
🏠 Deductions & Credits
- Mortgage interest statement (Form 1098)
- Property tax records
- Charitable donation receipts
- Medical and dental expense records
- Student loan interest statement (Form 1098-E)
- Childcare provider name, address, and Tax ID/SSN
- Education expenses and tuition statements (Form 1098-T)
🏢 Self-Employed & Business
- Profit and loss summary or business income/expense records
- Mileage log or vehicle use records
- Home office measurements and expenses If you work from home
- Receipts for equipment, supplies, and business expenses
- Estimated tax payments made during the year
📈 Investments & Other
- Brokerage statements showing sales of stocks or investments (1099-B)
- IRA or retirement contributions and distributions
- Health insurance marketplace statement (Form 1095-A) If you used the marketplace
- Any IRS letters or notices received during the year
